I lost count at 50, but this little sparkler certainly had me on my toes, with fitting the settings together like a jigsaw, multiple sizes of diamonds in a random pattern. By slightly curving the top plate with the settings, the wear on the diamonds and setting beads will be minimal, and adds quite the design flare to this ring. Let me present the mega bangle!! Reusing sterling silver can be tricky, especially when it's 70gms in one solid length. The simple looking jobs are sometimes the most deceiving in their making. Generally the steel ingot mould doesn't need much warming up - you do this so the molten metal doesn't solidify on contact. This baby needed a lot, as I had to pour about 200mm long by 15mm wide strip, it was a fine balance of pouring, keeping everything molten till the end of the pour, and getting an even thickness. I never let metal beat me 💪 After 'gently' persuading the bangle in to shape, it was time for the texture. Indent by indent, the final product came to life, along with a matching ring. Remodelled magnificence..... Emma has wanted to recreate one of her favourite rings from silver and cz to gold, diamonds and her precious opal for quite some time. It was finally the right moment to make it happen. Stronger, refined, very bling... So much fun to make for her, extra care was taken when setting, shaping the claws down on the opal, as it is a doublet with a resin dome and easily scratches by my tools. It's a rare day I love a photo of me, but I think this one reflects my joy, pride and gratitude for the Regional Women in Business award at our @busseltoncci Business Excellence Awards. I was in the presence of some amazing local businesses, and as I stood on the podium winging my speech (I had not prepared anything) I looked around that room and saw so many friends and faces that have embraced me since I returned to work out of Busselton one year ago. It's hard to believe it's only been a year. I'm always so cautious to tell my personal story, but it's very intertwined with my jewellery journey. I've endeavoured to use the challenges life throws up personally to keep motivated, grow and embrace what gets thrown my way. I certainly haven't always felt so accepting or capable of dealing with said challenges, but as I approach my 50th birthday next year, I've found such a peace and freedom in accepting others choices and moving on, in having boundaries that protect that peace, and feeling very comfortable in my own skin and trusting that I'm on the right path. Creating jewellery for you has been my saviour through so many of those challenges. Now that I have the opportunity, I'm creating the supportive and flexible space for women in my industry that I wish I had when I was a worried mum working from her carport workshop, so I could be available for my daughter - school canteen duty, parent help days, sports carnivals, appointments, and to be very rea,l trying to work out why my beautiful girl suffered so badly with separation anxiety, school refusal, social overwhelm - she and I have the answers now, but those 8 years were dark and lonely, with no one believing me that it wasn't just regular childhood challenges. My business model reflects my personal and professional tenacity, and an empathy that women in particular need support and flexibility when being a working mum but also the main caregiver in many households. Why shouldn't we be allowed to fulfill our professional dreams while still parenting our children with compassion and awareness? So surround yourself with empathetic, open minded people, that want you to flourish in all aspects of life 💖
Wishing the wonderful Jen a very special 40th 💖 She's been wanting a memorial ring to remember their very loved first fur child. Brad sneakily organised with me to create this ring for her, using a combination of existing yellow and new white gold, plus diamonds to represent their family. It's sleek and stylish in top, with Vader's name and a paw print on the sides to remember him. The ashes were filled in to the cavity, then a screw was put in place. I've known Jen for 12 years, our girls spent many hours as toddlers together, and playing with Vader. The moon, sun and waves - absolute bliss I had so much fun being creative for Honor, and finally using my pneumatic graver set up after it being in storage for literally 10 years. Using her recycled gold - alloying 3 different gold carats in to 9 yellow gold - her diamonds and sapphire, this gorgeous design was inspired by her love of all three elements. This magic bench - has an amazing story. I bought it locally from marketplace early last year - jarrah and a lighter coloured hardwood - the workmanship of this bench is exquisite, I could see it the moment I saw the photos. So Mel sold it to me, we've since become friends through our women's business group and shared friends. She didn't really want to let it go, but knew it was going to be well loved. I am the third keeper of this beauty. The most crazy coincidence (which I don't believe in...) is that a wonderful Busselton client whom I also now consider a friend had this bench made for her daughter (in Perth) who sold it to Mel, who moved down south with it in tow..... With moments like this that seem to be happening, the new workshop and future plans for Marita Joy Fine Jewellery feel so much like they are meant to be. And I finally get to use tools and equipment I've had in storage because of space constraints in my old workshop. As beautiful as antique jewellery is, brooches aren't worn much these days, so we converted a family piece in to wearable earrings. And a new discovery for me which clients are loving, are the silicon enclosed gold butterflies for stud earrings. Repairing and restoring jewellery to it's former glory is such a satisfying process... Steph had these two rings she wished to gift, so new sapphires were needed for the princess bezel set ring, and for the other ring her main sapphire repolished and reset, new claws for it and the side white sapphires replaced and reset, with the decorative millegrain redone on the surrounds.
