After the Regional Chamber of Commerce awards last night, surrounded by inspirational small businesses and the energy of self made legends, how could I not be inspired to brainstorm my next level up? Although not a category winner, I was in the presence of 102 regional small businesses, of approximately 48000 that our amazing state has. Each one of these businesses starts with an idea, a person or group who knows their idea has value, and then finds the support people to help them grow. And then finds the way to do all it takes to establish and grow their business to give you all the product or service you need. A special thanks to Victoria and Bron and all people from Busselton Chamber of Commerce for the ongoing support ❤️ One business in particular (everyone had inspirational stories) - Marine Biomedical from Broome - blew me away - they have worked out how to make bone from pearl shell for transplants - we need more people like this in the world! I will settle for making people happy when receiving their custom pieces, or making their own in their private workshop, so for now, my thinking cap has been switched to how to make my next move happen. Colour celebration 🌈 Tourmaline, Aquamarine, Sapphire, Tanzanite, Emerald, Amethyst, Diamond - a mix of all the favourite colours Alison loves with her gold. A gorgeous, fun design. Sometimes the best laid plans just don't work. Initially, Alison chose a beautiful Australian boulder opal as the main stone for her ring - but despite the greatest of care, the opal cracked when being set. Opals are fragile, and I've set many in my time, but this one broke my heart. I loved the initial design. If a jeweller says they've never had a stone break, it's not the truth. Making sure to come up with plan B and way to solve the situation is the only way to go. This new design was meant to be, and now finally on Alison's hand ✨️
Skye is back in the workshop tomorrow after her first TAFE training block. As a regional apprentice she has her TAFE training in Perth, and she's been honing her skills and creating some amazing things. Her handmade silver studs are now available online, $70 per pair. Lulu brought to me a mix of loved heirloom jewellery and favourite pieces to be remodelled. The puzzle was how to make a pair of cufflinks in to a bracelet....we got that sorted. The bracelet with the double clasp was originally hollow, so we remelted her old jewellery and remade as original, but now with a lot more life left in it. It's International Women's Day - for women running their sole trader businesses like myself, it means celebrating the effort and achievement of being responsible for all aspects of my business logistically, as well as growing it to support myself and my daughter through all that life throws at you. Craig wanted to enhance Bec's existing wedding ring with a replacement antique engagement ring - unfortunately her original engagement ring had been lost. This all done for their 15th wedding anniversary this week. She is also a ruby lover, so I sourced a lovely replacement to the existing amethyst. We took Bec's wedder, removed the diamonds, melted the gold and refashioned it fit in snuggly with the curved arms of the new engagement ring. It looks like two separate rings but it's been soldered together. Happy Anniversary to you both 💖

Wow, what a week and start to jewellery bench life for Skye. 2 pieces made, the first being a pair of heart shaped amethysts set on chain. Baptism by fire you might say, hearts are one of the most difficult shapes to make with wire - she had to make 4 of them for the earring set. The tasks she's completing give her the fundamental bench skills, and I'm pretty impressed that as a first year apprentice in her FIRST WEEK, she's accomplished these pieces. Her soldering ability on fine silver wire - actually so much harder that soldering gold - grew exponentially. The second piece is a spinner ring, which Skye assisted Freya to complete - Freya receiving a gift voucher for the ring and an opportunity to be a part of the design and making process. Skye and I connected a year ago through a local entrepreneur program I was asked to mentor her with. I knew she was the apprentice I had been manifesting, and here we are, making it happen!
